The Duke Forest neighborhood occupies the wedge of Durham between Duke's West Campus and the 15-501 corridor. Streets are quiet and canopied. This lot sits deep on a wooded acre -- dozens of dogwood trees and azalea bushes frame the brick walk in spring, and the stone chimney rises above the canopy in every season.
Coffee. Little Waves Coffee stocked in the kitchen. Namu Coffee (3604 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd) is the closest local cafe -- 1.4 miles, worth the drive for the low-key, wooded ambience.
Restaurants and bars. Foster's Market (2694 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd, 0.6 miles) for the best breakfast and lunch in the neighborhood -- scratch soups, biscuits, and peanut butter pie on a cottage patio. King bed, private and quiet on the ground floor. Full bath with shower on the first floor. Room-darkening shades. This room works well for guests who need a ground-floor bedroom -- no stairs.
